Chick flicks are part of our lives. Those are the movies that sweep us off our feet with their romantic settings, cheesy lines, great sense of humor, and touching love stories. We even find ourselves crying for hours and belting up the movies’ soundtrack in the middle of the night after watching one. And who isn’t even obsessed with the leading ladies such as Drew Barrymore, Sandra Bullock and Mila Kunis? Remember the moment you eagerly used tweezers to pluck your brows to imitate their thin eyebrows? Sadly, the thin brows trend is now gone and eyebrow tattoos are in the spotlight. Even some of our favorite actresses here in the Philippines went under the blade to get fuller and well-groomed eyebrows.

But what is eyebrow tattooing? And why are more and more people intent on trying it?

Eyebrow tattooing is also known as microblading – a process available in several cosmetic clinics in the Philippines. The professional artist uses a handheld tool with a tip that contains several tiny needles or fine blades to make superficial incisions in the brow area. Semi-permanent pigments are then deposited to the skin in a way that it mimics the growth direction and natural color of the eyebrows. This procedure is still popular today as it is recognized as the best way to get long-lasting and perfect eyebrows without using makeup. Even famous Filipinos celebrities such as Yassi Pressman and Nadine Lustre confidently show their brows on fleek! No wonder many have already scheduled their eyebrow tattoo appointment with their trusted cosmetic clinics in the Philippines.

If you’re one of those people, we suggest you do the prep care first to ensure that your brow area is healthy, non-sensitive, non-irritated and ready on the day of the procedure. Here’s how:

  1. Apply rosehip oil or virgin coconut oil every night.

Gently massaging your brow area with oil encourages hair growth while contributing to skin cell production and repair. Because the oils are packed with vitamins D and A, they also help to smoothen the brow area and eliminate unwanted bumps.

  1. Avoid eyebrow treatments such as waxing, plucking and tinting.

Frequent waxing and plucking damage the hair follicles and lead to swelling and irritation.  Meanwhile, tinting overshadows the natural color of brows; making it hard to select the proper eyebrow tattoo pigment for you.

  1. Avoid intense exposure to the sun before your appointment.

The professional artist can’t carry out the procedure when you are experiencing a sunburn, peeling or itching on your face on the day of your appointment.

  1. Do not have facial treatments two weeks prior.

Refrain from undergoing chemical peels, botox, dermabrasion, and laser treatments. Having this before the microblading procedure will result in poor tattoo pigment deposit.

  1. Do not take blood-thinning supplements one week prior.

Supplements that contain fish oil and Vitamin E reduce blood coagulation. As eyebrow tattooing involves making superficial cuts on the brow area, taking these will prolong the healing time.

  1. Do not take alcohol, coffee, and pain relievers before the procedure.

These beverages and pills increase the risk of excessive bleeding and will delay blood clotting.

  1. Do not work-out on the day of the procedure.

Working out will increase sweat and oil production. This will make it harder for the tattoo pigment to stick to the skin.

Eyebrow tattoo makes it possible for us to imitate the perfect eyebrows of our favorite leading ladies in Hollywood and the Philippines. Make sure you follow these tips before your appointment to make your brow area a good canvas for your artist and get the best results.
